Chameleon DX Net
  • OK, now I'm going to get serious about doing this.

Being an avowed Chameleon enthusiast, I've taken my V1 and used it in some pretty nasty conditions ranging from 5+ feet of snow in Utah, 100+ degree temperatures in Arizona, pouring rains of Tasmania and elsewehere on the Australian mainland.  Without fail, the Chameleon V1 has rivaled anything else I have used or seen in use.  The evidence of which has been shown in a few Youtube videos I posted on the previous forum.  Hopefully Carl can get those migrated over here.

Now, surely I haven't been the only Chameleon user who has logged awesome contacts like Zimbabwe while in a blizzard at Bear Lake in northern Utah.  Or done 15,000 mile long-path DX contacts to eastern europe QRP (5 watts) to Japan on emergency power while sitting in my car in a park in Adelaide, South Australia.

Point be made, the Chameleon has proven it's ability to work the world without impediment.  And I think that we can raise the profile of the sleek and stealth Chameleon products by showcasing it on a weekly DX net.  We could go more frequently as popularity dictates.  At this point I am leaning towards the following:

Weekly Net: Friday at 22:00 UTC (Fridays 14:00 MDT, 18:00) (08:00 Sydney)  Primary Freq. 14.228, Secondary 18.115, Tertiary 21.278.

    Any thoughts?

  • Hey this is a great idea. Not sure that I'll have the time to participate yet but its good because people will be able to see how far their antenna installation can reach!

How many people would like to try?

    Cheers,

    Carl
  • Count me in for Trying it.
  • I'll play from the East Coast of the US.

  • OK, the first run is going to be this Friday 27 April at 22:00 UTC (Fridays 14:00 MDT, 18:00) (08:00 Saturday in Sydney)  Primary Freqency will be 14.228MHz, Secondary 18.115Mhz, Tertiary 21.278Mhz.  If you don't hear us on 20M then move up to 17M and so forth.  I'll run the net the best I can, but may need somebody jump in and run the show if conditions are not the best.
  • I am on that frquency now (14.228) , pretty much monitor it at all times with my 2nd HYBRID.

Give a shout... you never know.

  • Just a reminder of the innagural Chameleon DX tomorrow at 2200 UTC.  I'm looking forward to logging as many contacts as we can with other Chameleon users.  I will act as "Net Control." But if for some reason nobody hears me, then I need somebody else to be prepared to jump in and take charge.

When you check in, please provide the the following:

    Call sign

    Name

    QTH

    Which Chameleon antenna(s) you're using.

  • P.S. You will hear VK5DDH/VK7 (soon to be VK7TAS) as Net Control.
  • Just to Confirm 22:00 UTC time will be 16:00 MST April 27th (Edmonton, Ab Canada)
  • Confirmed.

I think the times are great, the bands were poor.
  • Anybody up for giving it another try this weekend?

  • Count me in... same time and frequencies suggested.

  • I'm in, I can go to the top of a mountain now that I have the mobile set up and give it a whirl. At least what they call a mountain around here, about 3000' in elevation.

  • I am eager to try again today, same frequencies and time...

    are we go ?

  • We are a go!

Now, as a result of my other problem I've had to move my antenna. I'm doubting how well it's going to work. So ears to the designated frequencies and my eyes to this forum.
  • On 20m and calling CQ Chameleon.
  • Anybody out there?
  • My apologies, I was called into a long meeting.
  • Tried & tried on 20, I didn't hear a thing. On 17 there was a QSO on 18.114 that was pretty strong up here so I didn't want to interrupt them.
  • Is this net still operating? Thanks Jeremy
  • I think it needs to be tried again ....
  • just got mine and would love to try out the net... of course I read this on a Saturday morning and have to wait a whole week... is it still an active net???
