RFI???
  • OK, so my oh so nice neighbour, who also happens to be my landlord, poked his head over the fence and told me that every time I key up, I turn his Samsung TV on and off.  I thought that was a bit unusual.  So I did some homework, and sure enough, Samsung T.V.'s and monitors are particularly prone to HF RFI.  At least he was really nice about it and actually didn't even imply that I stop using my radio.  But clearly I cannot keep this up or he and his wife will not be happy.  Interestingly though, all the other people who've faced this similar issue have been transmitting in excess of 500 watts or more.  Not me.  Just 100 watts here.  What can I do?

  • Have you tried a Coax Choke right under your antenna (10' of RG8X, 7 Turns)?
Have you grounded the radio to earth?
Have you grounded the antenna to earth?

  • Yes.

    Yes.

    Yes.

The problem is not on my end.  It's his (Samsung) TV is particularly sensitive to RFI.

  • It seems that those Samsung have that problem. I found some info below. I think that it is due to problem of lack of shielding.

  • That's interesting.  I have a Samsung LCD tv mounted about 10 feet from my antenna and have never had any RFI.  I have a Hybrid with the MIL whip.  I run a Icom 746pro at 100 watts all the time and nothing.  Now my tv is 6 years old so I don't know if that makes a difference.
  • Move the coaxial cable 90 degrees from where it is now.

    Yes, I am serious.

  • Nothing has made a difference.  VK7TAS is off the air.  :(
