V2L with 102" whip
  • I presently have (2) V2L`s mounted in a vertical configuration.  I am considering replacing the top V2L with a 102" whip.  Any thoughts about this, pro or con?

The present setup is on a 25 ft mast with an air choke.

  • Neal,

replacing the upper of the V2L with a 102" whip might work very well BUT make sure that the whip won't be too heavy for the V2L base. With extreme wind the V2L might bend too much if the whip is too heavy.

  • Agree 100% with Carl, having broken a V1 base with a well known manufactures 102" steel whip. I think it was too heavy and the whip really whips around with the slightest breeze, and I did not add extra support to the base element. ? Enclose in pvc or wrap lots of electical insulation tape around especially near the top and towards the bottom or better yet if you have some additional beer money buy the CHA mil-whip which I ended up doing, it is a lighter and not subject to to going " limp and whippy" in the slightest breeze.  Good luck.
