Well, I got it installed. Carl, I think you underestimated the difference in performance between the V2 and V2L. It easily out performs the V2. No "major achievements" as far as distance goes, but I do make contacts more easily now. I haven't had a whole lot of time for testing, but I can already tell this will serve me well.
I ordered the V2L/CAUM combo. One issue, not a deal breaker or complaint, but without the CAUM, I can tune down to 40 Meters as expected. However, with the CAUM I still can't tune 80. I tried it in the location in the picture and from the back of the truck bed. It's probably something simple I'm over looking.
It's not installed right now. Trying to figure out how I'm going to do it. Relocate the antenna? I don't know. But that mount probably wouldn't like the extra weight. I tried it stationary and it was ok. I'm thinking about mounting it under the hood and running a jumper to the antenna.
Any thoughts on doing a remote mount of the CAUM and running a jumper? I know that's not what it's meant for, but technically should work.
I'm just thinking that putting antenna on the back of the truck isn't going to do much good since the bed is composite. Even if I run and ground strap down to the frame, there's not much metal directly underneath the antenna.
