USER GUIDE HAS BEEN UPDATED
The URT-1500 is a cutting-edge high-power remote outdoor tuner designed for unmatched versatility and compatibility with almost any antenna and transceiver model. Whether you’re a seasoned amateur radio operator or engaged in critical communications, this robust tuner ensures optimal performance across a wide range of frequencies and setups.
Key Features:
- Broad Frequency Coverage: Tunes antennas between 1.8 and 30.0 MHz, making it perfect for HF operations.
- High Power Capability: Handles up to 1500W SSB/CW, 800W on digital modes, and 400W for continuous duty modes like AM, RTTY, and WSPR.
- Fast Tuning with Memory Recall: Matches antennas with impedance mismatches up to 16:1 in just 8 seconds, or as little as 0.1 seconds for stored memory frequencies (16,000 slots).
- Outdoor Durability: The Tuner Unit is weatherproof and designed for permanent outdoor installation, reducing loss from high SWR on the feedline.
- Universal Compatibility: Operates with any transceiver without the need for brand-specific control cables, thanks to the bias-T-powered Coupler Unit.
- Multiple Antenna Options: Ideal for coaxial-fed antennas like Inverted-Vs, dipoles, verticals, and random wire configurations.
Components:
- Tuner Unit: Weatherproof and mounted near the antenna feedpoint for minimal signal loss.
- Coupler Unit: Indoor operator interface for seamless integration with your transceiver.
- Flexible Antenna Connections: Supports single-wire or coaxial-fed antennas with dedicated connectors for each type.
- Integrated Grounding and Counterpoise Support: Connect counterpoise wires for enhanced performance on specific bands.

The URT-1500 sets the standard for high-performance remote antenna tuning. Designed for durability, ease of use, and outstanding performance, it’s the ideal solution for maximizing your communication capabilities.
Recommendations:
- We recommend the use use a a RFI CHOKE at the feedpoint of the antenna tuner.
- For permanent installation, we recommend the Morgan System M-303U-PP coax lightning arrestor. This power pass version allows up to 50VDC to pass through the arrestor to allow mast mounted pre-amps, switching relays, etc. to operate through the coax.
WARNING:
When adjusting a solid-state or tube amplifier, always tune the antenna tuner with the amplifier in standby mode and at low power only.
The CHA URT-1500 coupler MUST be installed between the transceiver and the amplifier, with no additional devices in line.
Reasons:
- Prevents Damage – Tuning at high power or with the amplifier active can cause excessive voltage and current stress, potentially damaging the tuner, amplifier, or transceiver.
- Ensures Proper Matching – The CHA URT-1500 needs to match the antenna system at low power before engaging the amplifier to avoid impedance mismatches that could lead to inefficient power transfer or high SWR.
- Avoids Component Failure – High-power tuning can result in excessive heat, arcing, or failure of sensitive components in the tuner and amplifier.
- Protects Against Unstable Operation – Improper tuning with the amplifier engaged can cause RF feedback, oscillations, or erratic performance that may affect signal quality and amplifier stability.
Additional Recommendation:
To minimize RF interference and enhance overall system performance, we strongly recommend using an RFI choke at the feedpoint of the remote tuner. This helps suppress unwanted RF currents on the coax shield, reducing the risk of interference, RF feedback, and potential equipment malfunctions.
