"These winders are exactly described and are extremely well made - I have been using them currently for deployment of the counterpoise wire for my vertical antenna for POTA - it allows me to quickly extend the wire and then very easy and quick windup of the wire when done- nice and neat and won’t come undone."
"I haven’t had a chance to utilize these yet but the construction appears to be very robust."
"Excellent quality. Exactly what I was looking for."
"The winders are well made and sturdy. The original winders (where you wind in a figure 8 method) work well. but the wheel winders are easier to manage."
"Chameleon is reliable. Their design, their construction, their science and engineering, and the simple out of the box functionality of everything they sell are all remarkable. These winders are no exception. I am so very much looking forward to using these with a new set of radials on my own build schedule. In case you missed the details, here is what caught my eye and field-comms eyes off the bat when I pulled them from the box (you get 2!!!) . * Very sturdy hard plastic construction * Wide hand-hold that will easily fit my medium-glove-size hands with gloves * The whole reel assembly is a bit larger than I expected, but that does give these reels the look of impressive durability. --- Length: 6. 25" / 158. 75mm --- Width @ top (widest): 5. 25" / 133,4mm --- Width @ bottom (narrowest): ~1. 875" / 47,63mm --- Height (laying flat from base to top of handle): 3. 5" / 88,9mm * The winder is larger than I anticipated, and a bit large to fit into a very small QRP kit. Happily, the winder has a tremendously handy carabiner hole for hanging from a belt or pack. * They are ratcheted with a firm-tension unlock, like any good hand winch!!!!! * If used to wind a string, cord, or wire, there is a clever winding guide into which you feed the line, then feed an end through the outer side of the reel to 'lock' it in. Wind away, confident that twists and tangles will be kept at bay. If using multiple radials or other wires, you may have to forego the winding guide as it is quite narrow and likely won't accommodate a clutch of wires. * Line feeder grommet width: 1/8"/31,75mm * The inside-the-reel capacity is tremendous: --- Reel Width: 1/13"/33,78mm --- Reel Depth: 1/25"/31,75mm * The reel is designed to be held in the left hand by it's sturdy handle with a wider grip for stability. Winding, then, is done by the right hand. The ratchet lock can actually be opened with your left or right thumb for pulling the line off the reel. * Pricing: $ - I wish I had more things to wind so I could buy more. These might be one of the most practical *tools* CHA sells. HIGHLY recommended."
"I use the smaller size CHA Wheel Winders for both my throw line and as a variable length counterpoise wire. The small size easily accommodates 100 feet of 1. 4 mm throw line. What I like best about it is that the throw line never tangles and you can rapidly pay out the length that is needed and wind it back up when done, rather than winding it on your hand or on a flat winder. This is great for use of EFHW or wire antennas deployed for POTA ops. I also use the winder as a variable-length counterpoise wire. The smaller size easily accommodates 10m of 20 ga silicon wire for use as a 40m through 10m counterpoise. I use a Sharpie pen to mark the wire for each 1/4 WL length on each band. Works great for the vertical POTA Performer. 73 de NQ1F"
"They work well. Required a bit of adjustment to get reel to turn freely."
"Great product"
"Winders are sturdy and effectively and easily store, dispense and retrieve antenna wire and guy lines"
WIRE WHEEL WINDERS (2 PACK ) · Field Accessories
A field-use accessory that supports transport, organization, deployment, or maintenance.
Why operators make room for it
The accessory that saves five minutes in the rain or prevents one tangled deployment quickly becomes a permanent part of the field kit.
CHA WIRE WHEEL WINDERS (2 PACK ) pairs small and large handled winders for organizing different wire lengths, giving the operator a cleaner way to deploy and recover wire while keeping the actual radiator choice separate.
For the operator, that means less time untangling, searching, measuring, or repacking—and more time building and operating the station the trip was meant for.
