STINGER KIT (PERMANENT) · Compact Artificial Ground / RF Return

A compact elevated counterpoise or ground-plane system for tuned vertical antennas when full-length wire radials cannot be deployed safely.

Six short stainless elements instead of long ground wires

Build a controlled RF return inside a restricted footprint

The CHA STINGER KIT (PERMANENT) is an electrical RF-return system—not a mast, clamp, stake, or stand. Six 48-inch stainless-steel elements screw into the supplied CHA HAT HUB to form a compact counterpoise or ground plane.

Use it with a source-governed tuned vertical such as a CHA MCC 2.0 / CHA PRV 2.0 component stack when wire radials would obstruct a balcony, parking area, small boat, table, walkway, or another occupied site.

Quick product reference

What the complete kit contains

Primary RF role
Compact artificial ground / counterpoise for a governed vertical antenna
Elements
Six 48 in stainless-steel elements with teardrop ends
Hub
One CHA HAT HUB with six element positions
Fasteners
Six stainless-steel 8-32 × 1/4 in set screws
Central interface
3/8-24; the completed antenna stack and support path must be source-governed
Deployment count
Use up to all six elements as required by SWR, clearance, and the approved mounting arrangement

Where it solves the right problem

Use it when wire radials create a hazard or do not fit

Restricted sites
Small condo balconies, busy parking areas, occupied walkways, tables, and other locations where loose wire radials could be stepped on or become a trip hazard.
Elevated installations
Governed CHA UCM, CHA CARBON FIBER TRIPOD, CHA SPIKE MOUNT, CHA SURVEYOR-A, CHA PORTA-MAST / MAST TOPPER, CHA JAWMOUNT, or equivalent documented 3/8-24 support paths.
Marine use
A compact option on a small boat when long wire radials cannot be deployed; the complete marine mount, bonding, clearance, weather, and RF-exposure path still requires verification.
Electrical isolation
For a tuned vertical, place CHA SS INSULATOR between the conductive or ground-coupled support and the complete STINGER/HAT-HUB plus feed/radiator assembly.

Controlled stack

  1. Secure the documented mechanical support.
  2. Install CHA SS INSULATOR above any conductive or ground-coupled support hardware.
  3. Install the CHA HAT HUB and the required STINGER elements on the antenna side of the isolation boundary.
  4. Install the governed feed, matching/loading, and radiator stack above the RF return.
  5. Route a feed-point-choked coax cable, then tune and verify the completed antenna at low power.
Evidence boundary: a 3/8-24 fit does not approve every antenna or support combination. The STINGER KIT changes the RF-return geometry, so do not substitute a wire-radial NEC pattern or claim universal efficiency without configuration-specific evidence.

Commercial options

The product record offers Hub Only, Stingers Only (6 pieces), and the complete Stinger Kit (Permanent). A governed Builder return path requires the complete kit, or the exact combination of one CHA HAT HUB plus six CHA STINGER elements already owned.

Full-set shipping package: 51 × 3 × 3 in; 3.4 lb; oversize package.
