Start from one of the six manual-defined shapes, then let the tuner transform the impedance presented by that complete system.
Build the documented shape
- Inspect the antenna before recalling a tune.
- Use minimum practical tune power.
- Compare unexpected SWR with the previous record at the same station-end reference plane.
- Stop if tuning behavior changes with time, movement, or power.
Why an operator chooses it
A repeatable tune can be operationally valuable, but it says nothing by itself about loss, current distribution, or the direction of radiation.
Read the site before opening the bag
Keep notes by configuration and band. “MPAS 2.0, 40 m” is incomplete without the geometry, counterpoise, feed line, and tuner state.
Common ways this goes wrong
- Chasing a lower number after the tuner is already within its safe operating target.
- Changing wire length and tuner state together.
- Ignoring water, dirt, or loose joints.
- Transmitting at full power to diagnose an unstable match.
Before you transmit
- Confirm the exact radiator, matching unit, return path, feed line, and support arrangement.
- Keep conductors and supports clear of power lines and uncontrolled public access.
- Reproduce the guide dimensions before experimenting.
- Inspect every connection and begin testing at low power.
- Record geometry, band, tuner state, and the result before changing one variable.
