Most portable antennas force the operator to choose a shape before leaving home. MPAS 2.0 works the other way around. It packs a matching unit, a 73 ft antenna wire, a 25 ft counterpoise, the MIL 2.0 whip, the MIL EXT 2.0, a spike mount, choked coax, hardware, and a field bag into one system that can be reconfigured at the site.

That flexibility matters when a quick roadside contact becomes a full evening at camp, when a vertical has no room for radials, or when regional coverage calls for a low horizontal wire instead of a tall radiator. The operator still has to choose the right documented configuration; modular does not mean every physical combination is electrically approved.

What the kit can become

  • Manpack Vertical for the smallest and fastest vertical deployment.
  • Portable Vertical using MIL 2.0 with MIL EXT 2.0 for additional radiator length.
  • Horizontal NVIS using the 73 ft wire low and level between two supports.
  • Sloping Wire using one elevated support.
  • End-Fed Inverted L and End-Fed Inverted V when the site supports those geometries.

The choice that changes the system

Start with the communication path and the site, not with the part that is easiest to assemble. A vertical favors a small footprint and omnidirectional coverage. The low horizontal wire is the deliberate regional/NVIS choice. Sloping, inverted-L, and inverted-V shapes trade support requirements and directional behavior differently.

What MPAS READY really means

MPAS READY identifies a modular product family. It does not turn a shared 3/8-24 thread into proof of RF compatibility, mechanical capacity, or a complete antenna. Use only the combination, return path, support, feed line, and tuning method documented for the selected build.

Before you transmit

  • Choose the exact configuration before laying out parts.
  • Confirm whether the selected HYBRID is MICRO or MINI and stay within its mode-specific power limit.
  • Use the specified radiator and counterpoise arrangement.
  • Plan the required supports, clearances, paracord, and safe access.
  • Use a suitable tuner or coupler as required by the manual, then begin testing at low power.
