Build the documented shape
- Begin with a reproducible sloper or inverted-V build.
- Confirm the desired broadside or favored direction from the exact geometry.
- Use the same feed line, tuner state, power, and measurement reference plane for comparisons.
- Change height or orientation only when the support remains safe.
Why an operator chooses it
A lower displayed SWR after a change can mean better matching, more loss, or simply a different transformation. Compare receive noise, known signals, and on-air reports as well.
Read the site before opening the bag
Make the first measurement before “optimizing.” Without a baseline, the operator has only a new configuration and a memory.
Common ways this goes wrong
- Moving height, counterpoise, and feed-line route together.
- Using a neighboring NEC plot.
- Ignoring receive noise.
- Publishing a percentage improvement without controlled measurements.

- Keep conductors and supports clear of power lines and uncontrolled public access.

- Inspect every connection and begin testing at low power.
