Raising a feed point can change current distribution, common-mode behavior, mechanical load, and public-access risk. It is not a free performance upgrade.
Build the documented shape
- Start from the Portable Vertical identity.
- Do not substitute a mast, extension, tripod, clamp, or raised platform unless the complete support relationship is documented.
- Keep the specified counterpoise attached at the actual RF feed point.
- Recheck stability, guying, coax routing, and RF exposure for the new height.
Why an operator chooses it
Height may change the installed antenna, but a mechanically possible stack is not automatically a controlled MPAS 2.0 configuration.
Read the site before opening the bag
If the site requires elevation to clear metal or people, stop and verify the complete support chain before assembly.
Common ways this goes wrong
- Calling a raised assembly “the same antenna.”
- Moving the counterpoise away from the feed point.
- Using conductive support pieces without understanding whether they enter the RF system.
- Ignoring the greater overturning load.
Before you transmit
- Confirm the exact radiator, matching unit, return path, feed line, and support arrangement.
- Keep conductors and supports clear of power lines and uncontrolled public access.
- Reproduce the guide dimensions before experimenting.
- Inspect every connection and begin testing at low power.
- Record geometry, band, tuner state, and the result before changing one variable.
