Build the documented shape
- Pack each configuration as a complete build, including paracord, anchors, tools, and a current guide.
- Label HYBRID power class and coax.
- Record the normal tuner behavior and analyzer sweep.
- Keep the Horizontal NVIS option ready for regional work and a vertical or sloper option for other paths.

Rehearsal exposes missing support line, incorrect adapters, poor cable routing, and setup steps that looked obvious at home.
Read the site before opening the bag
Choose a site that remains safe after dark, in wind, and around other personnel. Keep a written frequency and configuration plan with the radio.
Common ways this goes wrong
- Changing parts during an incident without recording the new system.
- Relying on one band or one geometry.
- Assuming all operators know the kit.
- Treating “water resistant” as permission to leave connections unmanaged.
Before you transmit
- Confirm the exact radiator, matching unit, return path, feed line, and support arrangement.
- Keep conductors and supports clear of power lines and uncontrolled public access.
- Reproduce the guide dimensions before experimenting.
- Inspect every connection and begin testing at low power.
- Record geometry, band, tuner state, and the result before changing one variable.
