In plain language: MPAS 2.0 is documented as portable/man-packable equipment. A permanent installation needs separate structural, weather, lightning, grounding, access, and maintenance engineering.
The fact that a portable configuration works during a field session does not make it suitable for unattended long-term exposure.
Build the documented shape
- Use the portable manual only to understand the antenna configuration.
- Select permanent supports, lightning protection, entry grounding, weather sealing, and strain relief from appropriate current standards.
- Plan inspection and controlled lowering.
- Do not leave telescoping or portable joints permanently loaded without documented approval.
Why an operator chooses it
A base station may still use MPAS 2.0 temporarily or as a backup. That is different from declaring the kit a permanent outdoor antenna.
Read the site before opening the bag
If permanence is the requirement, choose hardware intended and documented for that duty or obtain competent site-specific engineering.
Common ways this goes wrong
- Leaving a spike-mounted vertical unattended.
- Treating water resistance as permanent weatherproofing.
- Omitting lightning and entry grounding.
- Using portable guying as a structural certification.
Before you transmit
- Confirm the exact radiator, matching unit, return path, feed line, and support arrangement.
- Keep conductors and supports clear of power lines and uncontrolled public access.
- Reproduce the guide dimensions before experimenting.
- Inspect every connection and begin testing at low power.
- Record geometry, band, tuner state, and the result before changing one variable.
