Why an operator chooses it
A tree-supported wire may be easier than forcing a vertical into shallow soil. A clamp or tripod may be useful only when its complete relationship is verified.

Test the support without the radiator at full height before energizing the antenna.

- Hammering the spike into rock.
- Wedging the base into an unstable crack.
- Running coax over a sharp edge.
- Calling a mechanically stable mount electrically equivalent.

- Keep conductors and supports clear of power lines and uncontrolled public access.
- Reproduce the guide dimensions before experimenting.
- Inspect every connection and begin testing at low power.
