A summit can offer clear RF horizons and terrible mechanical conditions. The antenna that performs on paper is useless if it cannot be erected safely or recovered quickly.

Build the documented shape

  • Use the smallest documented configuration that meets the path.
  • Keep a low wire option only when supports and summit rules make it practical.
  • Plan guying and anchors for the actual surface.
  • Protect threaded joints and coax during the climb.

The Manpack Vertical reduces setup complexity. The longer Portable Vertical or wire configurations may offer more opportunity, but cost more time, space, and wind exposure.

  • Letting summit excitement override the wind plan.

  • Keep conductors and supports clear of power lines and uncontrolled public access.

  • Inspect every connection and begin testing at low power.
  • Record geometry, band, tuner state, and the result before changing one variable.
