Build the documented shape
- Telescoping Vertical: fastest and omnidirectional.
- End-Fed Inverted V: one center support and broadside behavior above 10 MHz.
- Sloping Wire: one high support and increasing directionality toward the wire end.
- Horizontal NVIS: two low supports and regional lower-HF intent.
Why an operator chooses it
The optional SS25 increases radiator length in the vertical workflow but also increases physical height and wind loading.
Read the site before opening the bag
Compare only the same band and exact model identity in the pattern library. Then confirm the installed system with measurement and on-air observation.
Common ways this goes wrong
- Ranking all configurations from one band.
- Using normalized NEC shape as efficiency.
- Ignoring receive noise and support cost.
- Assuming longer always means better.
Before you transmit
- Confirm the exact radiator, matching unit, return path, feed line, and support arrangement.
- Keep conductors and supports clear of power lines and uncontrolled public access.
- Reproduce the guide dimensions before experimenting.
- Inspect every connection and begin testing at low power.
- Record geometry, band, tuner state, and the result before changing one variable.
