MPAS Lite is for the operator who wants real field flexibility without carrying the full MPAS 2.0 component set. The standard system can go from a five-minute telescoping vertical to an inverted V, sloper, or low horizontal NVIS wire using parts already in the kit and ordinary site supports.

The practical appeal is not that one shape wins everywhere. It is that the antenna can change when the available space, the desired path, or the operating time changes. The SS17 keeps the package compact; the optional SS25 increases physical radiator length for operators who want more lower-frequency capability while preserving a telescoping-whip workflow.

Four useful starting points

  • Telescoping Vertical: small footprint, fast setup, and omnidirectional operation.
  • End-Fed Inverted V: one center support and broadside directional behavior above 10 MHz.
  • Sloping Wire: one elevated support and a useful mix of short- and longer-path coverage.
  • Horizontal NVIS: two low supports for deliberate regional coverage on lower HF bands.

Where the value shows up

A POTA or SOTA operator can start with the whip and switch to wire when time and supports permit. An HOA operator can deploy temporarily and remove the system after operating. An emergency communicator can select a shape for the required path instead of asking one vertical to do every job.

What remains configuration-dependent

Tuner need, SWR, pattern, support height, counterpoise use, and useful coverage change with the chosen geometry and band. The guide documents the starting point; the installed system still needs to be inspected and verified.

Before you transmit

  • Verify whether the unit is HYBRID MICRO or HYBRID MINI.
  • Use the mode-specific power rating for that matching unit.
  • For vertical operation, deploy the documented counterpoise and extend the whip as directed.
  • For wire operation, reproduce the guide geometry and keep strain on support hardware rather than RF connectors.
  • Check the completed antenna before transmitting.
Boundary: The guide documents SS17 and optional SS25 use. Do not treat another whip, extension, or mount as approved merely because it threads together.
