CHA OCF40 Installation Guide: Horizontal Configuration

A horizontal OCF40 is the deliberate choice when the site offers three supports and regional/NVIS-oriented coverage is important. The guide notes that a roughly 10–15-foot horizontal installation can enhance NVIS behavior.

How the documented system works

Suspend the matching transformer from its own line, route the 44- and 22-foot legs in opposite directions, and support both ends through their isolation rings. Keep the feed line from carrying the center load.

The boundary that prevents mistakes

Lower height can favor higher-angle radiation but does not guarantee a path. Wire clearance, support conductivity, terrain, and nearby structures still change tuning and pattern.

Use this field sequence

Survey about 60 feet of clear space, install three safe supports, attach and raise the feed point, tension both legs with slight sag, route coax away from traffic, and verify the antenna in final position.
