CHA Support Hardware Inspection, Maintenance, and Troubleshooting

Support hardware is part of the antenna system, not scenery. The mast, base, adapter, guy point, guy lines, surface, wind, feed-line pull, and antenna geometry must work together before RF performance matters.

Maintenance & Repair CHA Support Hardware Reviewed 2026-07-14
Inspect before retuning: Support hardware is part of the antenna system, not scenery. The mast, base, adapter, guy point, guy lines, surface, wind, feed-line pull, and antenna geometry must work together before RF performance matters.

After every deployment

  • Inspect every structural and threaded interface before and after use.
  • Dry and clean collapsible sections, clamp faces, guy lines, sleeves, and fasteners.
  • Label kits so the correct adapter and hardware stay together.
  • Retire damaged structural parts rather than retuning around a mechanical fault.

When something moves or the SWR changes

  • Stop transmitting and make the structure safe.
  • Inspect the base and work upward through every loaded interface.
  • Correct mechanical movement, moisture, damage, and feed-line strain before changing antenna tuning.
  • Rebuild the documented geometry and restart at low power.

Do not return to service

  • Keep the fall zone clear.
  • Lower the system if any support moves or deforms.
  • Never work beneath an unstable mast or loaded antenna.
