Choosing an MPAS READY Counterpoise

Choose an MPAS READY counterpoise by the complete antenna configuration, attachment hardware, wire length, and deployment goal—not by whichever wire is closest in the bag.

MPAS READY Handbook 03 Components Reviewed 2026-07-14
In plain language: Choose an MPAS READY counterpoise by the complete antenna configuration, attachment hardware, wire length, and deployment goal—not by whichever wire is closest in the bag.

Why this matters in a Chameleon system

A broadband HYBRID vertical, a tuned BV or MCC/PRV vertical, and an end-fed wire do not automatically use the same return path. The MPAS READY guide assigns different wire counts and lengths to different builds.

Build or diagnose it this way

  • Start with the exact recipe for radiator, matching unit, support, and band.
  • Use ring-terminal wires only at a documented screw, ground stud, or eyelet.
  • Use banana-plug radials only in a compatible banana socket.
  • Keep the layout repeatable before comparing tuning or reports.

Wrong turns to avoid

  • Calling every return wire interchangeable.
  • Forcing a ring terminal into a banana-only hub.
  • Adding a return path to a balanced dipole that does not call for one.
