Connector Heating, Insulation Failure, and RF Arcing

A warm connector, damaged insulation, burning smell, visible arc, or intermittent crackle is a stop-work condition—not a tuning clue to work around.

In plain language: A warm connector, damaged insulation, burning smell, visible arc, or intermittent crackle is a stop-work condition—not a tuning clue to work around.

Why this matters in a Chameleon system

Heating can come from resistance, contamination, excessive current, mismatch, underrated adapters, or strain. Arcing can carbonize insulation and make the next failure easier.

Build or diagnose it this way

  • Stop transmitting and disconnect power.
  • Let components cool.
  • Replace damaged hardware rather than polishing an arc path.
  • Resume only at low power after restoring and verifying the system.

Wrong turns to avoid

  • Tightening a hot connector under power.
  • Tuning around damaged hardware.
  • Assuming it is safe because receive still works.
