MPAS 2.0 Portable Vertical Configuration

Choose this configuration when a small footprint still matters but the operator can carry and stabilize the longer vertical assembly.

Build the documented shape

• Use the selected HYBRID matching unit at the feed point.
• Install MIL EXT 2.0 below the fully extended MIL 2.0 whip as shown in the manual.
• Lay out the 25 ft counterpoise from the feed point; optional documented radial accessories may improve the return system.
• Use the spike or another specifically documented mount and add required mechanical support.

Why an operator chooses it

Compared with the Manpack Vertical, the added radiator length improves the lower-frequency opportunity, but it also increases wind loading and setup responsibility.

Read the site before opening the bag

Look overhead first, then check the ground, wind, people, vehicles, and room for the counterpoise. A more exposed location can be electrically attractive and mechanically poor.

Common ways this goes wrong

• Leaving out the counterpoise.
• Treating the MIL EXT 2.0 as a generic mast for an undocumented top assembly.
• Skipping guying or stability checks because the spike feels firm.
• Assuming a tuner can correct a poor return path or unsafe installation.

Before you transmit

• Confirm the exact radiator, matching unit, return path, feed line, and support arrangement.
• Keep conductors and supports clear of power lines and uncontrolled public access.
• Reproduce the guide dimensions before experimenting.
• Inspect every connection and begin testing at low power.
• Record geometry, band, tuner state, and the result before changing one variable.
