Choose the sloper when the site offers one useful tree or mast but not two supports for a horizontal wire.
Build the documented shape
- Raise the far end of the 73 ft antenna wire to the guide height.
- Anchor the matching unit at the low end with the documented spike arrangement.
- Connect the 25 ft counterpoise at the feed point and run it on the ground.
- Keep the wire almost taut without placing the connector under tension.
Why an operator chooses it
The sloper is a practical compromise: one elevated support, a modest footprint, and a pattern that becomes more directional toward the wire end as frequency rises.
Read the site before opening the bag
Aim the slope deliberately when a preferred direction matters, but remember that ground, height, nearby objects, and band can change the installed result.
Common ways this goes wrong
- Using the high end as a lifting point for the matching unit.
- Leaving the wire wound on the winder.
- Pointing the antenna from a diagram without checking the desired path.
- Calling the pattern unidirectional on every band and site.

- Confirm the exact radiator, matching unit, return path, feed line, and support arrangement.
- Keep conductors and supports clear of power lines and uncontrolled public access.
- Reproduce the guide dimensions before experimenting.
- Inspect every connection and begin testing at low power.
- Record geometry, band, tuner state, and the result before changing one variable.
