Safety first: Never install where the whip, support, guy, radial or falling component could contact a utility line. Remove RF power before touching the system.
One-Operator Quick Start
- Choose exactly one approved feed architecture.
- Survey overhead lines, buried services, lightning, wind, vehicles and public access.
- Install the approved mount and establish the exclusion perimeter.
- Lay out and identify the complete radial/counterpoise system before raising the whip.
- Connect the return system to the documented terminal for that feed architecture.
- Route the specified coax/control path consistently and place the choke as documented.
- Extend the SS17/SS25 from its largest section upward and apply approved guying.
- Calibrate or confirm the analyzer reference plane and sweep at low power.
- Tune only where required and within the current component instructions.
- Record the complete configuration before transmitting.
Symptom-to-Cause Matrix

Five Diagnostic Questions
- Which exact radiator length and feed architecture are installed?
- Where is SWR or impedance being observed?
- What is the deliberate RF return path?
- Is current flowing on the outside of the coax or control cable?
- Did the symptom begin after changing soil, radial layout, coax routing, weather, power or band?
Stop-Transmitting Conditions
- Arcing, smoke, burning odour, hot connectors or unexpected temperature rise.
- RF burns, equipment resets or uncontrolled interference.
- Rapidly changing SWR, unstable support or damaged guying.
- Lightning, unsafe wind or entry into the exclusion area.
- Any uncertainty about contact with electrical utilities.
Do Not “Fix” These Symptoms Blindly
- Do not choose a magical coax length to hide common-mode current.
- Do not add a second matching device without an approved architecture.
- Do not judge a radial change only from lower SWR.
- Do not add power to compensate for an unexplained weak signal or hot component.
Service note: Record photographs, analyzer files, frequency, power/mode, temperature, soil/weather and component serial/lot information before changing the failed configuration.
