Start here: For a URT1-fed balanced antenna, troubleshoot the documented coax path, BALUN, antenna symmetry, and URT1 connections before blaming the tuner or changing element length.
What the operator is actually controlling
The guide says most antenna problems are caused by coax and connectors. In this configuration, a damaged line, loose adapter, wet BALUN, unequal dipole legs, or nearby conductor can all change the load.
Use this sequence
- Confirm ANTENNA is used and the beehive is empty.
- Inspect coax, adapters, BALUN, and antenna conductors.
- Verify 0.5–15 watts during tuning and bypass the radio tuner.
- Substitute known-good coax before changing geometry.
Do not make these substitutions
- Adjusting an antenna around a bad cable.
- Placing a meter in the protected Coupler-to-Tuner coax.
- Assuming every tuning failure is out of tuner range.
