CHA 80 SHORT EXT replaces the normal 67 ft 80-meter extension with a compact loaded assembly for the CHA LEFS 8010. It is intended for operators who need 80/75-meter access but cannot safely accommodate the complete full-length wire.
The current offer is the Standard production version. Standard and PRO behave identically electrically; their difference is cosmetic. This extension is not a standalone antenna—it connects after the documented 63 ft CHA LEFS 8010 parent radiator.

Required complete system

Selection boundary: This accessory replaces only the normal 67 ft 80-meter extension. It does not replace the LEFS 8010 transformer or 63 ft parent radiator, and it is not approved as a generic loaded wire.
Install first, trim last
Tune the completed antenna in its final geometry
- Deploy the documented 63 ft CHA LEFS 8010 primary section.
- Connect CHA 80 SHORT EXT at the extension point normally used by the 67 ft 80-meter wire.
- Use the Standard coil-body holes for strain relief and the internal wing nuts for the electrical spade terminals. Tighten the wing nuts finger-tight.
- Support the low end approximately 3–5 ft above ground with some sag in the wire.
- Sweep 3.5–4.0 MHz at low power. If the intended frequency is already at or below 2:1 SWR, stop.
- To move resonance upward, fold back or shorten only the tuning stub. Trim no more than one inch, restore the same geometry, and measure again.
Do not cut the coil or parent radiator. If the extension will not tune, remove it and verify the LEFS 8010 parent configuration near 7.075 MHz before changing the tail.

The recorded production installation reached approximately 1.45:1 near 3.50 MHz. The full sweep also shows the parent LEFS 8010 system’s higher-band responses.
What it measures
Impedance behavior at the analyzer reference plane for that exact installation.
What can move it
Height, ground, coax, nearby conductors, wire tension, weather, and final tuning geometry.
What it does not prove
Efficiency, installed gain, radiation pattern, range, or an identical curve at every site.
Coverage & Pattern
Compare eight bands with the coil installed
The Standard sloper and horizontal NEC sets now cover 80, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12, and 10 meters with the 120 uH coil left in place. The antenna can be tuned on other frequencies, but these normalized NEC-4.2 simulations do not prove tuner compatibility or establish installed SWR, efficiency, realized gain, range, coil loss, transformer loss, feed-line current, or field performance.
Safety and operating boundary
Keep the complete antenna, supports, raising path, and fall radius clear of overhead power lines and public access. Use the lowest applicable power, duty-cycle, feed-line, connector, transformer, support, and completed-system limit. Analyze the installed antenna before transmitting.
