MIL WHIP CORD-SPRING · Radiators & Extensions

A modular radiator, whip, or extension used inside a documented antenna configuration.

Why operators make room for it

Give a modular antenna the length its configuration calls for

A small change in radiator length can open a different configuration without forcing the operator to carry a completely separate antenna.

That is where CHA MIL WHIP CORD-SPRING enters the kit. To start, remove the tip and base cap and remove the broken spring and cord assy. If the spring is corroded clean out the interior of the base section.

Used in a documented configuration, the component gives the operator another practical build option while preserving the electrical, mechanical, and power limits of the complete system.

Mil Whip Cord-Spring

Replacement Cord-Spring for Mil Whip 2.0

Replacement Instructions:

To start, remove the tip and base cap and remove the broken spring and cord assy.  If the spring is corroded clean out the interior of the base section.

Start threading the new cord through the base section and through each successive whip section until the cord exits the top section with the whip fully erected.  Replace the base cap.

Exercise the spring to confirm proper function.

With all sections fully seated pull out 6-8 inches of cord and clamp right at the tip using the clamping pliers of choice.

Tie a simple overhand knot in the cord and secure at the tip.  Remove the clamping pliers and cut off the excess cord leaving about 1/8” extra.  Melt this extra cord to prevent fraying.

Replace the tip cap to complete the procedure.

Tools Needed:

New cord and spring assy.

Small vise grip or other locking pliers

Knife or cutter to trim excess cord

Heat source to melt the tag end of the cord

A vise or someone to assist in holding the whip
