Added height is your friend

"I used the CHA SINGLE-EXT set to raise my CDL off the ground stake by 54" putting the base of the antenna at eye level. Increased the efficiency of the antenna across all the HF bands I used today when compared to the last time I used the CDL on the ground stake alone. As part of the MPAS system they are compatable with my other CHA units."

PERforms beautifully

"I've been getting into using the POTA PERformer style of antenna, which requires that the radiating element be elevated off the ground. I tried using the CHA-EXTENDER, but for as well made as they are, the thin body just doesn't hold up very well under a fully extended CH17. Enter the CHA SINGLE-EXT, with its thicker body and sturdier frame. Also, each unit of the SINGLE-EXT is 2' tall rather than the EXTENDER's 1', so a pair of two gives you the option of hoisting your telescoping antenna either 2' or 4' in the air. Combined with a spike mount and an isolator, the strong materials of the SINGLE-EXT make for a strong and dependable vertical even under modest winds. And while the strength is there to support my CH25 as well as my CH17, at 6' tall, I just don't have the height for tuning my antenna when it's up that tall! Combining a CH17 elevated on either 1 or both SINGLE-EXT in a ground spike, I was able to get <1. 1 SWR with just two elevated radials, just as a POTA PERformer promises. This has given me a new and powerful antenna configuration using my Chameleon products--and I'm sure those EXTENDER units will make great supports for the radials down the road."

Q&A

SINGLE-EXT (PACK OF 2) · Radiators & Extensions

A modular radiator, whip, or extension used inside a documented antenna configuration.

Why operators make room for it

Change the radiator—not the entire field kit

Modular field systems become valuable when one carefully chosen section can change what the complete antenna is able to do.

That is where CHA SINGLE-EXT (PACK OF 2) enters the kit. The CHA SINGLE-EXT ( Length: 27" Each ) is a modular extension component designed for Chameleon Antenna systems, specifically enhancing the versatility and range of antennas like the CHA BV (Basic Vertical) and other MPAS (Modular Portable Antenna System) configurations. This extension provides added length to improve resonance and efficiency across various HF bands, making it suitable for operators seeking enhanced performance in portable and field deployments.

Used in a documented configuration, the component gives the operator another practical build option while preserving the electrical, mechanical, and power limits of the complete system.

Best for

Modular field systems become valuable when one carefully chosen section can change what the complete antenna is able to do.

What else you need

Combine it with the specified base, loading, feedpoint, mount, support, and radial or counterpoise system.

Compatible with
  • Physical fit alone does not prove RF or structural approval
  • Shared 3/8-24 fit does not by itself establish RF, power, or structural compatibility
Limitations

Shared 3/8-24 fit does not by itself establish RF, power, or structural compatibility

What an operator can do

  • Use the part as an electrical radiator or mechanical riser only in the position documented by the completed-system guide.
  • Combine it with the specified base, loading, feedpoint, mount, support, and radial or counterpoise system.
  • Treat a shared thread as physical fit only; verify RF, power, and structural compatibility from an approved configuration.
Compatibility: Physical fit does not by itself establish RF, power, environmental, or structural approval. Follow a documented completed-system configuration.

Complete product details

The CHA SINGLE-EXT(Length: 27" Each) is a modular extension component designed for Chameleon Antenna systems, specifically enhancing the versatility and range of antennas like the CHA BV (Basic Vertical) and other MPAS (Modular Portable Antenna System) configurations. This extension provides added length to improve resonance and efficiency across various HF bands, making it suitable for operators seeking enhanced performance in portable and field deployments.

Key Features of the CHA SINGLE-EXT

Increased Antenna Length for Extended Coverage:

  • By adding the CHA SINGLE-EXT to a setup like the CHA BV, users can effectively extend the total length of the antenna, which improves resonance at lower frequencies.
  • The extension is beneficial for 40-meter and 30-meter bands, where additional height can make a substantial difference in radiation efficiency and range.

Compatibility with MPAS Components:

  • The CHA SINGLE-EXT is compatible with various Chameleon Antenna whips and components, such as the CHA SS58, CHA SS17, and CHA SS25, through a 3/8" x 24 threaded connection.
  • This compatibility makes it easy to customize setups and achieve specific operating goals, such as broadening the bandwidth or adjusting the antenna length to achieve the optimal SWR on target frequencies.

Robust and Weather-Resistant Design:

  • Built with durability in mind, the CHA SINGLE-EXT is weather-resistant, making it suitable for prolonged outdoor use.
  • This extension is designed to endure rugged environments, from forests and mountains to urban areas with harsh weather conditions, ensuring reliable performance in any setting.

Portable and Lightweight:

  • The CHA SINGLE-EXT is designed to be lightweight and easy to transport, ideal for field operators or portable setups where minimizing weight is critical.
  • This portability complements the overall design of the MPAS, which is meant for quick setup and breakdown in diverse environments.

Operational Advantages

  • Enhanced Ground Wave and Skywave Propagation:
  • By increasing the antenna length, the CHA SINGLE-EXT contributes to improved ground wave and skywave propagation, allowing operators to achieve better performance at various distances.
  • This extension is particularly useful for HF bands that require added height to optimize radiation patterns, making it a valuable addition for both local and long-distance communication.
  • Adjustable Configuration for Optimal Performance:
  • Users can easily install the CHA SINGLE-EXT between the base component (such as the CHA BLANK) and the chosen whip (e.g., SS58, SS17, or SS25) to extend the antenna’s effective length.
  • This modular approach allows operators to adapt the antenna configuration to changing propagation conditions, site constraints, or communication goals without requiring a completely new antenna system.

Example Configuration

In a Basic Vertical (CHA BV) Setup, the CHA SINGLE-EXT can be used as follows:

  • Setup: Connect the CHA SINGLE-EXT to the CHA BLANK base, then attach the SS17 or SS25 whip to the extension.
  • Enhanced Coverage: This setup increases the effective length of the antenna, improving resonance on lower HF bands like 40 meters, especially when paired with a loading coil.
  • Field-Friendly: Maintains a compact profile and can be quickly deployed, ideal for field operations where efficient use of space and setup speed are essential.

Technical Specifications

  • Connector: 3/8" x 24 threads for compatibility with other MPAS and Chameleon components.
  • Material: Durable, weather-resistant construction for use in outdoor environments. Anodized Aluminum and Stainless Steel
  • Length: 27" Each
  • Weight: 0.56 lb. (One section)

The CHA SINGLE-EXT is a practical and powerful addition to Chameleon Antenna’s modular antenna systems, allowing operators to tailor their setups for improved HF performance.
