This product was designed to combat the interference of commercial AM radio broadcasting in the frequency range of 560KHz to 1,700KHz, which can cause destructive interference to other receiving services in the local area within several miles of the broadcast transmitter site.
There are two types of AM interference with which you should be aware. The first is called fundamental overload, which is simply the signal distortion noticed in your receiving apparatus when the broadcaster's fundamental transmitted frequency (1,000KHz, 1,250KHz etc.) is so strong that the received signal voltage presented by the signal to your receiver is too great for the receiver's input circuits to handle. This type usually causes repetitive reception of the broadcast signal at many unrelated frequencies across the high frequency spectrum. The cure is to use a high-pass filter. The Morgan M-400x or M-402x serves to lessen the broadcaster's fundamental signal without attenuating signals above 1.8MHz or 3.5MHz, model dependent.
The second type of interference is more difficult to deal with. If the interference is found on direct multiples of the broadcasters fundamental transmitted frequencies (for example: a broadcaster on 1,000KHz, with interference on 2,000KHz, 3,000KHz, etc.), then the interference is caused by the broadcaster's harmonic content. These transmissions are emanating from the broadcaster's transmit site and cannot be lessened effectively in the field. If the latter type of interference persists in your case, the only useful method of dealing with the harmonic energy is to contact the broadcaster's station directly by phone and ask the chief engineer at the station for direct assistance. Although broadcasters are required by law to meet certain transmitter purity standards it is possible that enough energy at harmonic frequencies may still leak out and that near field interference can occur.

INSTALLATION
BCB filter installation is very simple. The units are not polarized and can be installed in either direction. However, during the manufacturing process they are tuned with input and output in certain directions for best performance, and are labelled as such. Filters are rated for 200 watts power and should be installed after transmitter and before amplifier or tuners. After installation a reduction of noise may be noticed which is the residual noise you have been tolerating before buying the filter. Sometimes the noise drop is dramatic, and other times less noticeable, but the reduction of reception in the broadcast band should be very noticeable. Normally you will still be able to hear local am broadcast stations even with the filter installed but at least they will no longer cause destructive interference to higher frequencies. Be sure that a short distance ground terminal connection is pat of your receiving station. A ground terminal is included and mounted to the filter chassis for this connection. Electric service box grounds and cold water pipes in most cases are very poor grounds and should not be used if good performance is required. The best ground is the shortest, most direct path to the soil, reasonable performance is still possible, however even with no ground.
