"As usual, the purchase experience with Chameleon Antenna was great. The process went smoothly, including the timely arrival of the antenna. However, I plan to deploy this antenna during an upcoming trip to Ohio, at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. So, views on how it performed will have to wait until after my return home. I do expect it to perform well."

It exceeds everything they said.

"It exceeds everything they said. One of the things that stands out is the minimal kinking. My younger one was going to help and started wrapping the wire up in a loop, but he dropped it, and it turned into a bird's nest in the process. The more he tried to fix it, the worse it got. By the time I got involved, it was bad. I thought for sure it was never going to be right again. However, 40 minutes later I was done, and the line was straight with no kinks. I had him hold the end while I ran my hand down the wire. I found one kink, but with a little bit of pressure, it was gone. Nice job!"

As described

"Works well, I like the winder, the wire is a tangled mess and you should deploy it at home first before taking it in to the field, I had the same issue that Bob-HOA Ham with the tangled mess. It works great though, it’s a 49:1 with good (but not hassle free wire) The only possible improvement I could recommend is if the wire was pre-wound on to the winder. If you’re hoping for the normal Chameleon greatness, this is for you!"

Great addition to the QRP gear bag.

"I purchased this featherweight antenna based on its power handling (25W SSB / 10W CW/Digital) and my positive experience with Chameleon's craftsmanship. After setup—with the transformer at 20 feet and the opposite end at 3 feet above ground—I checked the stock antenna’s SWR. My readings from the lower to upper portions of each band were: 40m: 1. 3–1. 4; 20m: 1. 4–2. 0; 15m: 1. 6–1. 8; and 10m: 2. 0–3. 0 (up to 29. 300 MHz). Overall, I am pleased with the deployability, quality of the materials and the aesthetics of this antenna. However, I noticed four potential areas for improvement: * Reduce the size of the isolation ring. * Reduce the size of the S-biner (or substitute it entirely). * Include a stretch cord to secure the wire. * Add a notch to the endpoints of the line winder, similar to the Chameleon LEFS EFHW 80-10 design. Ultimately, I am very pleased with this purchase. It will certainly get plenty of use with my QRP radios and makes a great addition to the QRP gear bag."

My first Chameleon product and my first end fed

"My reply on Youtube @HOAHamRadio @fredthorp6741 • 7d ago Tried one of these today next to my 20 and 40m cf dipoles on a Lab 599 Discovery. It's my first end fed and if today is any indication of what it's going to be like, I'm happy. No tuner was used or needed, which is good because I don't own one. Only had time for 20 and 40 and never saw the SWR on the Lab over 1. 2. If I remember on my stick 230 the only time it was over 1. 5 was at the very top end of 20. . . straight out of the box. I'm pretty sure this one will always live with the Lab. People that say you're not getting much for the price have never looked at ultralight backpacking gear, where less is always more. The strength of the wire is what sold me. While it's hard not to treat it delicately because of its size, it's good to know you can get give it a stout yank if it's hung in a tree. I'm not sure if I'd say it's a personal "must have" yet, but it's pretty close on day 1. Since then: Second day of testing was the same. This one will always be with my portable and QRP rigs. If I ever buy another antenna, it’s probably going to be a second one of these."

CHA LEFS Feather

"Overall nice performance, however it should be shipped with the wire already on the winder as it unavoidably tangles when first unwinding from the shipped coil."

Go-Bag Must Have

"The CHA FES FEATHER EFHW is everything I expected —- and MORE. Installation (and storage) is quick and easy mostly due to the light weight. It’s a must-have for Go-Bags."

CHA LEFS FEATHER EFHW

"Super light weight and that Kevlar wire is solid. Easy to carry, easy to deploy. Perfect for the bands I operate. Thanks Chameleon."

Q&A

LEFS FEATHER EFHW · Wire Antennas

A wire radiator or wire antenna system for documented horizontal, sloping, inverted-V, inverted-L, dipole, or NVIS use.

Why operators make room for it

Put useful wire in the air without carrying a permanent tower

A field site may offer height, distance, or concealment—but rarely all three in exactly the right places.

That is where CHA LEFS FEATHER EFHW enters the kit. The CHA LEFS FEATHER (Lightweight End Fed Sloper) is a purpose-built portable HF antenna designed for operators who demand maximum performance with minimum weight.

That flexibility gives an operator a credible path from a compact field kit to a full-size radiator, while the official configuration still governs feedpoint, support, tuning, and safety choices.

Introducing the CHA LEFS FEATHER – Ultra-Light HF Performance, Reinvented

The CHA LEFS FEATHER (Lightweight End Fed Sloper) is a purpose-built portable HF antenna designed for operators who demand maximum performance with minimum weight.

Weighing only 3.4 oz (96 grams), this antenna is engineered for POTA, SOTA, backpacking, emergency communications, and rapid deployment where portability and reliability are critical.

What Makes the LEFS FEATHER Different

At the core of this antenna is what truly separates it from everything else in its class: the wire.

The LEFS Feather uses a custom high-quality 26 AWG PTFE Military Kevlar wire, not standard stranded copper.

This reinforced composite conductor features:

  • A 26 gauge copper radiator
  • An interwoven Kevlar core
  • A PTFE (Teflon) outer jacket

Advantages of the 26 AWG PTFE Kevlar Wire

This wire is engineered for real-world use and delivers performance and durability that standard antenna wire cannot match:

  • It does not kink, eliminating memory and permanent bends during deployment and recovery
  • The Kevlar core carries the mechanical load, protecting the copper from stretching and fatigue
  • Extremely lightweight while maintaining high tensile strength
  • PTFE insulation provides superior resistance to heat, abrasion, and harsh environments
  • Reduced long-term failure compared to standard stranded copper
  • High-visibility orange for faster deployment and easier recovery

This is a military-grade wire solution, built for operators who rely on their equipment.
