Start with the job: The CHA UCM turns a sound table edge, rail, or similar support into a portable 3/8-24 antenna position and SO-239 feed-through. It is a clamp mount—not a tuner, transformer, loading coil, mast, or universal compatibility approval.
Why this part earns its place
- Choose a surface that can carry the complete antenna, leverage, coax pull, and wind without crushing, rocking, or releasing the clamp.
- Use the isolated top 3/8-24 stud only with a documented radiator or feed unit.
- Attach ring-terminal counterpoise wires to the side screw when the antenna requires them.
- Banana-plug radial products need a separately documented banana interface; they do not plug directly into the UCM.
What a complete deployment includes
- Seat the clamp squarely on a clean, sound surface.
- Tighten until it cannot rotate, slide, or rock under firm hand pressure without using an extension bar.
- Load the antenna gradually while supporting it by hand.
- Strain-relieve the coax and recheck clamp tension after routing and after wind changes.
Compatibility that matters
- The current guide supports documented portable vertical or matching-unit installations on a suitable clamped surface.
- Do not mount CFM-34HD on UCM.
- Do not treat the clamped structure as a substitute for the intentional RF-return system.
- Physical 3/8-24 fit proves thread engagement only—not RF, power, thermal, wind-load, or structural suitability.
Field safety and recovery
- Never use the temporary clamp on a moving vehicle.
- Add guying or secondary retention whenever the completed antenna requires it.
- Stop if the mount shifts, the surface deforms, or the antenna becomes unstable.
- Do not use near power lines, uncontrolled public paths, or a surface with unknown strength.
- Inspect the aluminum body, top insulator, stud, SO-239, side screw, clamp faces, and handle.
- Clean and dry the support surface and mount.
